A private nature reserve on the edge of untamed forest, with views across the Tsitsikamma Mountains and Matjies River Gorge.
A family-run forest lodge established in 1993, folded into the hillside above the Matjies River Gorge.
Hog Hollow Country Lodge has welcomed guests to this private nature reserve on the Garden Route since 1993. Each suite sits at the forest's edge, with its own fireplace and a private viewing deck over the Matjies River Gorge, the Tsitsikamma Mountains rising beyond the tree line.
There is no grand facade here, and no need for one. Just an indigenous forest lodge that has kept the same unhurried rhythm for three decades: coffee at the Boma, a slow walk through the reserve, a fire lit again by evening.
Explore the Suites
Set into the hillside above the gorge, where the mountains replace any need for glass facades.
Turacos and sunbirds move through the canopy above the pathways connecting each suite.
Close enough to Plettenberg Bay for a day out, quiet enough within the reserve to forget you left.
Suite A, Suite B, the Family Suite, the Honeymoon Suite and the Interleading Suites, each opening straight onto indigenous forest.
A quiet, self-contained luxury suite dressed in warm timber and stone, with its own fireplace and a private deck angled toward the gorge.
Suite B mirrors its neighbour's comfort with a slightly different outlook: a king bed, a wood fire, and forest pressing close against the glass.
Hog Hollow's most private address, set apart from the other suites, with a fireplace for cool forest evenings and a viewing deck that looks straight down the gorge. Built for a romantic forest honeymoon or an exclusive couples retreat.
Room enough for the whole family to spread out, with its own lounge, a fireplace, and doors that open straight onto the reserve.
Two suites joined by a shared door, suited to families and groups who want togetherness by day and privacy once the fire is lit.
The Boma is where Hog Hollow gathers: coffee and the day's plans at sunrise, then a shared table and a wood fire once the forest goes dark.
